Why We Support 1% for the Planet
The environment that we live, work, and play in is not only where we do what we do, it’s why we do what we do. Advocating for our beaches and waterways is crucial to our mission, and we view protecting these precious resources as the most important aspect of our jobs.
As a provider and promoter of brands representing the coastal and outdoor lifestyle for over 40 years, Islanders is a proud member of 1% for the Planet
1% for the Planet is a global community of brands and individuals giving back to environmental nonprofits. Only 3% of total philanthropic giving goes to environmental causes, and 1% for the Planet is working to change that.
The 1% for the planet membership model drives critical philanthropic support to address the most urgent environmental issues of our time. To date, these members have donated over $265 million to organizations that are making a positive impact.
The 1% for the Planet certification is given to businesses and individuals that donate 1% of annual sales to environmental causes
We have made this promise, committing 1% of our annual sales to the Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance, to help make our community a better place. The non-profit organization is responsible for sustaining healthy, local waterways.
Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance carries out this mission through monitoring, education, restoration, and research. Some of the crucial projects the organization is involved in include:
- Oyster shell recycling
- Monofilament recycling
- The Native Plant Demonstration Garden and Trail
- Water quality
- Living shorelines
- Seagrass monitoring
- Invasive species removal
And many more! Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance also brings their mission to the classroom through educational programs and is continuously furthering research efforts through partnerships on water quality and ecology projects.
Islanders is committed to the cause because the cause is our home
The Emerald Coast isn’t just a vacation spot. It’s where our children go to school and our friends go to work. It’s where our homes are built, and our businesses serve. The Emerald Coast is our community, and nothing is more important to us than that. Protecting our environment is the first step to making our community a better place.
